Ruth A. Shurts

GLASFORD ~ Ruth A. Shurts, 78, of Glasford, IL, passed away 11:50 p.m. Saturday, February 23, 2019, at OSF Richard L. Richard Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, IL, with her loving children by her side.

She was born May 24, 1940 in Peoria, IL to Vernon & Catherine "Tiny" Deatherage. She married Richard K. Shurts on September 26, 1957 in Peoria, IL. Her husband and love of her life preceded her in death on September 18, 2009. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Sharon Casey and Mary Burtsfield and one brother, Robert Deatherage.

She is survived by two daughters, Cathy Draggist (Rick) of Peoria, IL, and Penny Nerud (Gary) of Washington, IL. One son, Rick Shurts of Mapleton, IL. One brother, Gary Deatherage (Lori) of Mossville, IL. Two sister-in-laws, Sherry McCoy (Robert) of Peoria, and Rosanne Shurts, of Arkansas. Five grandchildren, Kristi Eve, Michael Brooks, Jacob Nerud, Jordan Nerud and Christofer Draggist. Four great-grandchildren, Tobie Gall, Logan Naylor, Micah Brooks and Maysen Brooks.

Ruth was the owner of Mother's Bar & Grill in Glasford  for many years, and was loved and known by all as "Momma'. She loved to mushroom hunt, fish and camp and bowling.  She was a member of the WIBC and USBC. She bowled in the Peoria area on many leagues, and was the President of various leagues for years. She was also a member of the National and Local 600 clubs, as well as a member of the Illinois State 20 year club. She bowled in many State and National tournaments.

At Ruth's request, cremation rites will be accorded and no services are scheduled.  She will be privately laid to rest with her husband.  Affordable Funeral & Cremation Services of Central Illinois, Peoria is handling her arrangements and notes of condolence maybe sent using www.peoriafuneral.com.
