Shirley A. Smith

Shirley Ann Smith, 82, of Peoria passed away at 8:18am, Sunday, December 22, 2019.

Shirley was born on Saturday, August 28, 1937, to Everett and Golda Marth Harmon.  She was later adopted by Anna Dutlinger of Peoria.  Shirley married James W. Smith on Wednesday, July 27, 1955 and they had 8 children together.  James passed away at the age of 51 on Sunday, September 11, 1988. Her parents, adopted mother and her siblings, five children, James W. Smith Jr. Cheryl A Hamilton, Kari L. Downard, Nola J. Foust and Betty L. Gibson preceded her in death.

Surviving are three daughters; Joy L. Walters of Morris, IL; Luci M. Sutter of Bartonville, IL and Tina M. Redmond of Canton, IL.  Also surviving are many grandchildren and great grandchildren.  

Shirley was an amazing, fun and compassionate person. She loved to laugh and make others happy.  Shirley worked as a waitress at the Dixie Manor Café for 19 years.  Later she worked for a cleaning company and at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in housekeeping. She loved spending time and playing games with family and friends and loved to listen to music.

At the request of Shirley, cremation rites have been accorded.  Her youngest child will announce a celebration of life service to be held at a later date.  Donations in her memory may be given to the American Cancer Society.
