Family and friends mourn the loss of Wanda M. Nixon-Maietta, “Big Mama” 89, of Chillicothe, who died on Thursday, May 31, 2018, at Heritage Health-Chillicothe.
She was born on June 14, 1928, in Louisville, KY, the daughter of Courtney C. and Elsie M. Crawley Keith. She married Clifford Nixon on April 1, 1946. He passed away on March 10, 1990. She later married Gerald Maietta and he also preceded her in death. Her parents, one son Charles “Nick” Nixon and two brothers Duane and Marvin also preceded her in death.
Wanda will be deeply missed by her daughters; Marlene Culbertson and Carolyn (Jim) Crose both of Chillicothe, Janette (Mike) Adkinson of West Palm Beach, FL. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren and 11 grandchildren. Further surviving are her siblings; Jack Keith, Daryl (Bonnie) Keith, Mary Jane (Wallace) Sharp, Sharon (Bub) Linch, Jim (Clara) Keith and Ronald (Dinah) Keith along with a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Cliff and Wanda were well known in Chillicothe for operating the Teen Center (Big Mama’s) restaurant and pool hall. Among her many interests was the company of good friends, family, gardening, nature and, very memorably, cooking. Her remarkable dishes graced the tables of countless restaurant patrons and family dinners. Wanda & Cliff were loved by everyone that had a chance to know them.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A time to celebrate her life will be held from 2:00pm until 4:00pm, Sunday, July 1, 2018, at Chillicothe VFW Post 4999.
