Dennis L. Hurt, of Peoria, passed away on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at his residence. He was born on January 20, 1947, in Peoria, a son of Harry and Betty Jean (Griffin) Hurt.

He married Diane Byrd in South Pekin on March 22, 1969. She survives. He is also survived by his siblings, Brenda Chepanoske and Sheryl Boatman, both of Pekin and Gregory (Mary) Hurt of Mapleton. His parents and one brother, Charles Hurt preceded him in death.

Dennis work in publications for Caterpillar. He enjoyed stock car races and as a kid, and worked in the pits at the Peoria Speedway. He was an avid car fan. He watched NASCAR and liked to go to the races, especially the Daytona 500. He also rooted for the Illini basketball team.

He especially loved his wife and being with her. He loved to wake up on Saturdays and go on random road trips with her. He took tremendous, loving care of her.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Saturday, March 18, 2023 at Bartonville United Methodist church.  Visitation will be one-hour prior to his service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dennis's memory to Tunnel 2 Towers Foundation.
