Albert "Shot" Raymond Snider, 78, of East Peoria, passed away on Friday, December 29, 2023, at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.
Shot was born in Peoria on July 17, 1945, to the late Albert and Mary (Righi) Snider. He married Vicki Thomas on December 31, 1991, in Peoria. She survives.
His children also survive him: Michelle (Eric) Guenther of Washington, Christine (Phillip) Heiss of O'Fallon, MO and Shawn (Katie) Snider of Sarasota, FL; stepsons, Damon (Kellie) Weber of Gilberts, Brandon (Katie) Weber of Peoria and Chad (Shannon) Weber of Pekin; foster child, Kristin (Brandon) Lelm of Chicago; sisters, Marlene Garrett and Joanne Doyle, both of Washington; and eleven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son, Albert Raymond Snider II, and stepdaughter, Tiffany Hicks.
Shot graduated from Spalding Institute in 1963. He served in the US Army, stationed in Fort Sill, from 1965-1967. He went on to work for Caterpillar, retiring after 35 years.
He was very fond of the Beatles and had an impressive collection of their music in his younger years. He loved sports and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals, Indianapolis Colts, and Notre Dame Fighting Irish fan. You could always find him in his favorite recliner, wearing his team attire and having many snacks at game time. As a Cub fan, Vicki donated her kidney for his first transplant. From then on, he had to confess he owned a Cub kidney. His love of sports was reflected in his adult life by his participation in several bowling and softball leagues.
Shot was a very loving husband and father with a kind heart. As a passionate animal lover, he considered his beloved cat's as family members. He always provided good material for our family jokes. We had many laughs with him through the years. He will be missed dearly.
He was of the Catholic faith and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Peoria.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A private burial of his remains will take place at Fondulac Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations may be made to the Illinois Cancer Center or TAPS.
