Albert "Al" Smith

Albert "Al" William Smith, 90, formally of Park Ridge, IL, passed away Sunday, October 15, 2023, at Apostolic Christian Skylines Peoria, IL.

He was born in Chicago, IL, to the late George J. and Marie J. (Fredricksen) Smith. He married Leta M. King in Des Moines, Iowa, on May 18, 1963.

Surviving are his wife, Leta, of Peoria, one sister, Irene Lewandowski of Chillicothe, IL, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Marie Hamburg and Louise Haan, and two brothers, Ralph and LeRoy Smith.

After graduating from Illinois Institute of Technology, he served two years in the Army. Then, he went to work for Standard Oil as a Property Insurance Supervisor. He also earned a law degree at Chicago-Kent College of Law. In 1989, after 28 years at Standard Oil-Amoco, he retired.

For many years, he was a runner and ran seven marathons. He enjoyed ice skating, tennis, traveling, bird watching, stamp collecting, listening to classical music, and volunteering at the Park Ridge Library book sales.

A private family memorial service was held. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery, Oakbrook Terrace, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to an organization of your choice.
