Alice M. Roberts Herink

Alice M. Roberts Herink , 72, of Canton passed away at 3:12pm Saturday, January 18, 2014 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. She was born in Harrisburg, IL the daughter of Thomas and Grace Bramlet Roberts. Alice came to Canton as a recent college graduate from Blackburn College and became a creative and popular teacher at Canton High School. She soon met and married the love of her life Richard Herink on June 9, 1967. She later stayed home with her own children while also caring for other children and eventually continued her career at Helle Sawmill Hydraulics in Farmington from which she retired in 2008. She is survived by her husband, Dick her beloved children Stephanie & Todd, a granddaughter Sabrina Adams and her brother Harold who lives in Henderson NV. Many nieces and nephews also survive her. In addition to her family, many friends survive Alice at her church, Shields Chapel, where she was very active member of the United Methodist Women, the chime choir and of the Friendly Builders Class for which she was the teacher. Alice was also a very capable bridge player and a bowler. Among the things she enjoyed the most were reading many books, attending movies with family and friends, enjoying plays, shopping with her daughter and traveling. She also enjoyed the volunteer work and friends she made at the Children's Home in Peoria. She had a degree of loyalty and concern for both family and friends that made so many lives better. Alice was a kind and tolerant woman who made good decisions and who spent her life loving and helping others. She will be missed. Cremation Rites have been accorded with a memorial service scheduled for 10:30am, Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Shields Chapel United Methodist Church in rural Canton with Rev. Richard Atchley and Dean Austin officiating. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Shields Chapel United Methodist Church or Children's Home Association of Illinois.
