Barbara M. (Decarreau) Soddy

Barbara "Barb" M. Soddy, 93, of Metamora, IL, formally of Peoria, Il passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at Snyder Village in Metamora. Barb was born on June 24, 1931, in Winooski, VT, one of 11 children of Francois and Florence (Provost) Decarreau. She married James D. Soddy on November 18, 1952, in Colorado Springs, CO. He preceded her in death on April 21, 2015, in Peoria. She was also preceded in death by her son, Ray Soddy and nine siblings. She is survived by her daughter, Sandra (Michael) Beneventi of East Peoria; sister, Pauline (the late Carol) Decarreau of St. Albans, VT; grandchildren, Eric Beneventi, Kelly (Frank) Schapmire and Michelle Soddy; and great-grandchildren, Harlen, Meira, Lucille and Joey. Barb served in the United States Air Force where she was stationed in Colorado Springs, CO, and met her husband. She lived the majority of her life in the Peoria area. She was well known as the "school lunch lady" at Kelly Avenue School in Peoria Heights. She last worked as a realtor with Remax Reality. She enjoyed gardening and was a member of the Peoria Garden Club. She spent many years volunteering with the American Red Cross Disaster Service. She thoroughly enjoyed being a member of the Red Hats Club and could always be counted on to provide the fun and sass. She enjoyed being a part of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren's lives. We would like to thank Snyder Village in Metamora, IL for taking tremendous care of Barb and treating her like family. Per Barb's wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. A private Celebration of Life will be held in Vermont at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made in Barb's memory to Snyder Village or Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
