Bernard Patrick "Sarge" Donovan

Bernard Patrick "Sarge" Donovan Jr., 77, of Peoria passed away at 8:11am on Sunday, May 18, 2014 at his residence. Pat was born on March 23, 1937 in Peoria the son of Bernard P. and Marie Annette Wright Donovan Sr. He first married Cora Maguire in Dublin, Ireland on July 11, 1959. He later married Cheryl Snyder on November 20, 2001 in Camden, TN. Surviving are his wife of Peoria, two sons Michael (Rhonda) Donovan of Normal, IL and Brian (Bobbie) Donovan of Ravenna, OH; two daughters Elizabeth Donovan of Strongsville, OH and Laura (Dennis) Hutson of Chardon, OH. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren, five great grandchildren as well as one brother Dennis (Kathy) Donovan of Pekin. One son Larry, two infant brothers Michael and Thomas and one sister Teresa Eilers, preceded him in death. Sarge proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp with three tours of duty in Viet Nam and later the Army Reserve for a total of 33 years before being discharged as Sgt. Major in 1984. He was a civilian contractor as an electrician working for the U.S. Government. He later worked for Unclaimed Freight in Peoria for 15 years from 1993 until 2008, marketing cabinets and appliance before retiring. Sarge was an avid bowler during his younger years and enjoyed gardening during his retirement years. Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial Mass will be 10am June 16th at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Peoria with Rev. Terry Cassidy officiating. Burial of his cremated remains will be 2pm Monday, June 16th in Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield with Military Honors.
