Betty L. Burdette, 83, of Peoria passed away Saturday (Nov. 26, 2011) at home. She was born Sept. 20, 1928, in Peoria, a daughter of Thomas and Frances Scannell Hopwood. She married Donald R. Burdette on Jan. 5, 1947. Her husband of 64 years, he survives. She is also survived by two daughters, Dona (Rick) Guth of Danvers and Betsy Burdette of Peoria; two grandchildren, Garrick (Melissa) Guth of Kyle, TX and Heidi (Eric) Bowman of Congerville; four great-grandchildren; brother Ralph Hopwood of Peoria; and sister Lois Hitt of Albuquerque, NM. Her parents; brothers Thomas, Robert, Joseph and Glen Hopwood; and sisters Virginia Bowden, Bertha Fisher and Mary Jennings preceded her in death. Betty worked at Sealtest Dairy during World War II. She was a homemaker and the best cook anyone ever knew. She loved her family and took great care of her husband for the last several years. She was proud of her great-grandchildren and thought they were the most intelligent, delightful and beautiful kids in the world. She loved her pets, and her three cats will miss her tender care. Everyone who knew her will miss her greatly. Cremation Rites have been accorded and no services are planned. Betty would encourage women to get their mammograms. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to the family to be distributed to Betty's favorite charities.
