Bill Bateman

Billy "Bill" Dean Bateman, 80, of Hopewell, formerly of Springfield, IL. passed away at 6:30pm Friday, October 31, 2014 at his home. He was born on March 17, 1934 in Petersburg, IL the son of Keith and Buella "Blanche" Jones Bateman. Surviving are his brother, Dale and his wife Joan of Petersburg, IL and his partner Mike Starnes of Hopewell with who his spent the last 15 years of his life, along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and 4 sisters Katherine Zummo, Shirley Wanless, Eileen Adleman and Patricia Woodrum. He served in the US Army during the 1950's. He was retired from the State of Illinois-Department of Transportation where he worked as an Engineering Tech 3. Honoring his wishes cremation will be accorded and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to Unity Point Hospice or the A.R.K. no kill animal shelter in Lacon, IL due to his love of animals.
