Clara Rieger, 91, of East Peoria, died at 2:00 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, at her residence at Riverview Manor. Born Jan. 10, 1921, in Peoria, IL, to Karl and Rosa Miller Kreiter, she married Wilbur Rieger on Dec. 27, 1944 in Eureka. They had two sons, Randall (Judy Kay) and Virgil (Marsha), both of Chillicothe. They survive. Also surviving are her twin brother, Clarence (Daisy) Kreiter of Pekin, IL, her sisters, Helen Carlson of Belleview, IL and Francis Gunnels of Kansas City, KS, and two granddaughters. Her husband, five brothers, four sisters, and two great-granddaughters, Meadow and Lily Rieger, preceded her in death. A strong, friendly and caring wife and mother, Clara was a founding member of the Mossville PTA and regularly volunteered with various organizations like the Christian Center in Peoria. She was extremely outgoing and made friends wherever she went. She loved playing cards, traveling and going for riverboat rides on the Spirit of Peoria, Julia Bell Swain, and Idlewild, where she and Wilbur had their first date. Clara lived a full and complete life. She will live on in the hearts of her family and friends. Cremation Rites will be accorded with a memorial visitation being held from 2:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1 at Mason Funeral Home in Germantown Hills. Her granddaughter, Stacey Rieger, will give a short eulogy immediately following her visitation. Burial of her ashes will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given in her name to a charity of the donor's choice.
