Gary K. Hutton

Gary K. Hutton, 87, of Peoria passed away Saturday, December 2, 2023, at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home, with family by his side. He was born on April 23, 1936, in Petty Township, Lawrence County, Illinois, the son of Leo and Mabel Oteal (Stout) Hutton. He married Marilyn A. Buchko on June 8, 1956, at Grace Presbyterian Church in Peoria.  She preceded him in death on July 18, 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother and sister-in-law, Max (Donna) Hutton.  Surviving are his brother and sister-in-law, Joe (Linda), son, Tim (DeAnna) Hutton of Peoria, and daughter Dawn (Russ) Siegel of Peoria. Gary is also survived by six grandchildren: Ryan (Lindsey) Hutton, Robert Hutton, Brittany (David) Beck, Kristen Nichting, Jamie Nichting, and Patrick John Nichting. Also surviving are great-grandchildren, Braelynn and Cooper Beck, and several nieces and nephews.

Gary graduated from Peoria High School in 1953.  He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1955 and proudly served his country in the Korean War and later during Operation Desert Storm.  He rose to the rank of Command Sergeant Major before retiring in 1995.

He was a schoolteacher, coach and school bus driver for over 30 years in Dunlap and Princeville.  After retiring from teaching, he became a minister, pastoring in Elmwood, IL, then serving on staff at Bethany Baptist Church in Edwards, IL. Cremation rites have been accorded. A Memorial Service is scheduled for 11am Saturday, December 9, 2023, at Bethany Baptist Church in Edwards. Dr. Ritch Boerckel and Pastor Lyall Sutton will officiate. Visitation will be from 9am until time of service. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name may be given to the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home.
