Gary Lawrence Sr.

Gary K. Lawrence Sr., 71, of Peoria, IL, passed away at 2:12 pm, Wednesday, September 7, 2022, at Unity Point Health Methodist in Peoria.

He was born on September 20, 1950, in Vandalia, IL, the son of Gerald and Gayle Jones Lawrence. He married the love of his life, Debra Johnson, on February 8, 1992, in Peoria. He served in the United States Army as a combat engineer and served in the Vietnam War.

Surviving is his wife, three sons; Gary Lawrence Jr., twins: Timothy Lawrence and Thomas Lawrence, and daughter Brenda DeSanty and her husband, Jeff. He is also survived by his stepchildren: David Closen, Deanna Closen, Darren Closen, and his wife Bridget, Douglas Closen, John Long, and Angela Long. Seventeen grandchildren also survive him. He is preceded in death by his brother Larry Lawrence, his wife Barbara, sister Sandra Wilson (Dave), and stepson Sean Long.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 am on Monday. September 12. 2022, at Christ Lutheran Church in Peoria. Pastor Karl Eckhoff will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before his service. His funeral will be held at Camp Butler cemetery on Tuesday, September 13, 2022, at 2:00 pm.
