Obituary

George S. "Bud" Gibson Jr., 86, of Bartonville, passed away on Friday, July 31, 2026, at Arcadia Care in Morton, Illinois.

He was born on July 28, 1940, in Peoria, the son of George and Ruby Gent Gibson Sr. He married Joyce Yarger on November 11, 1961, in Peoria, Illinois.

He is survived by his wife and his daughter, Patricia (Robert) Lutton of Peoria. He also leaves behind five grandchildren: Jacqueline, Ryan, Joshua, Brittany, and Clayton. Further surviving are eight great-grandchildren and one daughter-in-law, Marsha Gibson. He was preceded in death by his son, Mark Gibson; his daughter, Penny Gibson; three sisters, Charlene Smith, Georgia Falatko, and Shirley Whaley; and his brother, John Gibson.

He worked for Stockyard's Farm Supply in Peoria for several years and later for Caterpillar Tractor Company for many years before retiring.

He loved exploring his creative side through drawing, woodworking, and leatherwork. He also enjoyed making wine, writing short stories, photography, playing the guitar. He was also a karate instructor and loved dancing. These hobbies brought him happiness and gave him the wonderful opportunity to express himself in many unique and joyful ways.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial Service will be held at the First Christian Church, 604 Groveland St, in Creve Coeur, IL, at 1 pm on August 29, 2026. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name may be given to the Wounded Warrior Project or the Peoria Southside Mission.
