George W. Mckenna

December 18, 1932 — June 7, 2015

George W. McKenna, 82, of Lacon passed away at 5:05am Sunday, June 7, 2015 at his residence with family by his side. He was born on December 18, 1932 in Farmington, IL the son of George and Flossie Thomas McKenna. He married Janet Mattern on October 10, 1980 in Peoria. Survivors include his wife, two sons Roger (Kim) McKenna, Brian (Gina) McKenna; three stepsons John (Shirley) Maubach, Brian Maubach, Steve (Marcia) Mattern. Also surviving are one sister Phyllis (Dorence) Oldenberg as well as 18 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. One son Lawrence preceded him in death. George was a graduate of East Peoria High School. He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1953 until being honorably discharged in 1955. After four years in the United Association Plumbers & Pipefitters apprentice schooling, he worked as a journeyman pipe fitter for 38 years mostly at Illinois Piping Corporation before retiring in 1993. He and Janet spent winters in Tucson, AZ for 19 years where George was very involved in woodworking, golf, hiking and enjoyed spending time with his many friends. Cremation Rites have been accorded. A Memorial Mass will be 11am Thursday, June 11, 2015 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Henry with Fr. Tom Mizeur celebrating. Visitation will be from 10am until 11am. Private burial of his remains will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name may be given to OSF Hospice. Notes of condolences may be sent using www.peoriafuneral.com.
