Harold A. Lawrence, 96, of Peoria passed away at 12:02pm Friday, September 9, 2016 at his residence. He was born on February 10, 1920 in Decatur, IL the son of the late Albert E. and Helen Schaefer Lawrence. He married Betty Wood on August 10, 1940 in Shelbyville, MO. She passed away on Feb. 23, 2009 in Peoria. He was also preceded in death by one daughter Kristy Behm, one grandson Derek Behm and one sister Betty Leas. Surviving is one daughter Judy (Bruce) Simpson and one son-in law Brian Behm all of Peoria. Further surviving are 3 grandchildren Gregg (Karen) Simpson, Lynn Weeks, Dana (Jeff) Thurmond, as well as 9 great grandchildren along with 4 great great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Harold was an honorably discharged WWII U.S. Navy Veteran. In early years he was an assistant manger for Sears & Roebuck Co, he later worked as an auto sales representative in the Peoria area. Harold was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church where he was the oldest member of the congregation. Harold was a former member of AMVETS Post 64, Elks Lodge along with being an election judge all in Peoria. Cremation Rites have been accorded. A Memorial service is scheduled for 11am Friday, September 16, 2016 at Redeemer Lutheran Church with Pastor Ted Benson officiating. Visitation will be one-hour prior to his service.
