Hobart H. Bucher, 95 of Peoria, IL passed away peacefully Saturday, February 13, 2016, at his residence with his loving wife by his side. He was born on September 20, 1920, son of the late Harvey and Stella (McCormick) Bucher of Astoria, IL. He is survived by his eternal bride, Bonnie, whom he married June 21, 1968 in Peoria, IL. four children Jill Brecher and Jason Bucher of Orlando, FL, Kyle (Douglas) Martin of North Bend, OH, and Julie Lonteen of Peoria; ten grandchildren Amiee (Lee) Blue of Savannah, GA, Jessica (Nick) Corthier of Carmel, IN, Trevor Martin of Snowmass Village, CO, Dylan, Olivia and Jackson Lonteen all of Peoria, Bradley and Madison Bucher of Orlando, FL, Nikki Bucher of Greeneville, SC and Blakeslee Bucher of Murfreesboro, TN; three great grandchildren Emma Blue of Savannah, GA. , William and Charles Corthier both of Carmel, IN. One sister Christine Danner of Astoria, one brother, Bernard of Macomb, IL and an infant daughter Nancy all preceded him in death. As a young man growing up in Astoria, IL., Hobart took pride in working as a butcher at the family store and helping his father pick pears and apples at their orchard. He enlisted in the US Army and served in WWII building radar stations to guide aircraft into China, Burma and India. He was awarded three bronze stars for his service in the CBI offensive. Hobart earned a good conduct medal in July 1945. He went on to study Journalism at the University of Illinois-Champaign. In Farmington, IL., Hobart was editor and owner of the Farmington Bugle and volunteered as a fireman. Other endeavors include, real estate broker and owner of Abbe Lanes Bowling Alley in Abingdon, IL before settling into a 25-year career as an editor at the Peoria Journal Star. Hobart has been a diehard cub fan since 1925 and could often be found playing golf or bridge with his friends. But above all, the most cherished moments for Hobart were those spent traveling and being with his family. Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be 6:30pm Friday, February 19, 2016 at Mt. Hawley Community Church, 6900 N. Mt Hawley Rd. Peoria, IL. with Army Military Honors to follow. Visitation will begin at 5:00pm and continue until his time of service.
