September 30, 1939 — July 7, 2014

Jackie K. Long of Pekin died at 3:40pm on July 7, 2014 at his residence at home surrounded by family. Born Sept. 30, 1939 in Oskaloosa, IA to Clifford and Opal Long. He married Rosemary West on December 7, 1957 in Oskaloosa, who survives. Also surviving are their children: Kimberly Strong, Bradley K. Long, Louise R. Milam, and Sherri Gschwend, grandchildren: Terra Morris, Michelle Biesecker, Trent Strong, Cole Milam, Austin Stump, Brooke Strong, Mallory Milam, Kayla Milam, and Jacquelyn Gschwend, great-grandchildren: Zayne Morris and Lucy Milam, brother: Jim (Barb) Long, of Iowa. Jack also leaves behind his furry daughter, Buttons. He took a lot of pride in his family and had a special place in his heart for each new member as they came along. His parents preceded him in death. Jack worked as an inspector at Caterpillar for 30 years, retiring from the Morton facility. He also worked at Spring Lake in Macomb, IL where he made many dear friends. He and Rosemary also made many more wonderful friends when they wintered in Mc Allen, Texas. Jack did not know a stranger, was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. He enjoyed fishing, "coffee timing", and "tinkering" around on projects. He will be greatly missed. Cremation rites have been accorded. A celebration of life will take place on Sunday, July 13, 2014 at Pekin Avantis from 2 to 4 for family and friends to come together to remember Jack. Memorial contributions can be made to OSF Hospice. Affordable Funeral & Cremation Services is assisting the family with cremation arrangements and notes of condolences may be sent using www.peoriafuneral.com.
