Obituary

James E “Jim’ Buchanan, 82 of Peoria Il passed away on March 30, 2026, at the Loft Rehabilitation of East Peoria. Jim was born in Peoria on April 3, 1943.

He worked for over 32 years as a baker for Butternut Bread, retiring in 2005. Always active, he later enjoyed nine years delivering flowers for Greg’s Florist.

Jim was a passionate Cubs fan who rarely missed games and loved discussing baseball with anyone willing to listen. He also enjoyed golf, watching hockey, and watching movies; if you mentioned a movie, he probably had already seen it. Most of all, Jim was crazy about his grandchildren. He adored them, showered them with love, and was known for never telling them no.

Jim had a strong, unwavering connection with his wife, Yvonne. She was the love of his life, and it was uncommon to see one without the other. Their relationship was stable, committed, and admired by all who knew them.

Jim is survived by his wife of 56 years, Yvonne, of Peoria; his son James Buchanan of Pekin; his grandson Brian Buchanan of NC; his granddaughter Hannah Buchanan of Springfield, IL; his sister Bonnie Nelson of Washington, IL; his brother Frank (Emy) Landers of Washington, IL; and his brother-in-law Robert (Lea Ann) Johnson of Peoria, IL.

He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Frank Landers, who raised him from the age of two, as well as his mother, father, and brother-in-law Richard “Dick” Nelson.

Jim’s family will hold a private memorial for him. His remains are to be placed in the Springdale Mausoleum in Peoria at a later date. Cremation and arrangements are being handled by Affordable Funeral & Cremation Services, Peoria.
