Jean Goddard

Iva Jean Goddard, 85, of Creve Coeur, passed away at 7:45 a.m. Tuesday, January 14, 2014, at the home of her eldest daughter. She was born Sept. 27, 1928, in Moulton, Ala., to William David and Martha Jane Thomas Strickland. She married LeRoy A. Goddard on March 26, 1948, in Peoria, Ill. He preceded her in death on Aug. 26, 1987. Also preceding her in death were an infant brother and three sisters, Jimmie Schertz, Evelene Thompson and Lois Schertz. Surviving are two daughters, Bonnie (Larry) Reeder and Bobbie (Dana) Chapman, both of Creve Coeur; two grandsons, Spencer (Taylor) Fiers of Creve Coeur and Joseph (Felicia) Bidleman of Peoria Heights; one great-grandson, Joshua Bidleman; two step grandsons Larry (Dara) Reeder Jr. and Mike Reeder both of Norwood; many cousins, nieces and nephews. Jean was a member of Creve Coeur Christian Church since the 1960s, where she taught Sunday school to 4 and 5 year-olds in the 1970s. Most recently, she placed pencils she sharpened and attendance cards in the pews. Jean had worked at Princess Peggy clothing Factory in Peoria in the 1950s. Later she was a homemaker and stay-at-home mother, where she enjoyed sewing and doing crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed hunting and shooting in her earlier years. Cremation rites have been accorded with a burial of her remains at 1:00pm, Monday, January 20, 2014 at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.
