Joanne S. Freaner

Joanne S. Freaner, 82, of rural Chillicothe passed away at 8:37am Sunday WilbertDecember 4, 2011 at her residence with family by her side. She was born on November 16, 1929 in Peoria the daughter of Herbert and Gladys Coon Schifeling. She married Harry D. Freaner on June 19, 1948 in Peoria. Joanne is survived by her husband of 63 years, two sons John of Chillicothe and Jim (Monica) of Peoria. Also surviving are three sisters Valerie Virgil, Eunice Birdoes, Beverly (Loren) Friday, two brothers Richard (Sue) Schifeling, and John (Joan) Schifeling, many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews also survive. As a young woman, Joanne worked as a teller and supervisor at Jefferson Bank in Peoria. After her marriage to Harry they lived in Alaska and California. Upon returning to the Peoria area, she served as a teachers aid at Calvin Coolidge Elementary School in West Peoria. She also worked with her husband at their business in Kickapoo, IL; Kickapoo Repair Shop until they retired several years ago. She was of the catholic faith, where she was a member of St. Mark's Parish for many years. Joanne enjoyed spending time with family and friends which included babysitting for her many grand nieces and nephews. She was always willing to care for ailing friends and family members. Cremation rites have been accorded and family and friends are welcome to celebrate Joanne's life at the home of her son and daughter-in-law Jim & Monica Freaner on December 7th from 11am until 1pm. Memorials may be given in her name to Susan G. Komen for the Cure in Peoria.
