Dr. John R. Day, 85, of Peoria, passed away at 3:09 am on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria after a brief illness.
He was born on October 18, 1938, in Philadelphia, PA, the only child of the late Elmer and Madeline Day. John married his college sweetheart Sharon Sakash.
Surviving are one daughter, Julia Barnes of Peoria, and two granddaughters, Tanner and Finnley Barnes.
Dr. Day founded Christian Psychological Associates in 1974 later known as John R. Day and Associates. His doctorate is in clinical psychology from the University of Illinois. Dr. Day practiced from 1971 to 2024.
Dr. Day was on the Board of Directors for the Peoria Symphony Orchestra and the Advisory Board for the Salvation Army. He was on the WTVP public television Board of Directors and a member of the Rotary Club in Peoria. Dr. Day liked to cook, play the piano and organ for the First United Methodist Church of Peoria, and sing in the choir.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A visitation will be held July 7th, 2024 from 3:30-5pm with a service at 5pm held at his church. A private inurnment of his remains will be at a later date in his hometown of Philadelphia. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Youth for Christ Peoria at 4100 N.
