Joyce Marion Johnson

Joyce Marion Johnson, 72, passed away on February 18, 2017 at Fondulac Woods Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in East Peoria, IL. Joyce was born in Peoria on February 6, 1945 to Joyce Hunt Johnson and Edward Amer Johnson. For much of her childhood, she spent summers with her sister, Virginia Crane and family in North Carolina, traveling, learning to water ski at the lake house or just having fun with her niece and nephew. After graduating from Peoria Central High School, Joyce graduated from Carroll University in Waukesha, Wi. She received her Master's Degree in Library Science from UNC-Chapel Hill and after graduating, returned to her position at Peoria Public Library where she worked until retiring. Joyce will be remembered for her love of cats, especially her beloved Sitka, her love of reading and the happiness she brought to friends and family. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her brother in law, George W. Crane, MD. of Durham, NC, her nephew, Bill (Patti) Crane of Cary NC, her niece Susan C. (Darrell) Deloatche of Durham, NC along with great nieces, Catherine Kelly and Amey Hendriks, great nephews, George Crane and Dee Deloatche and their families. The family would like to thank Joyce's friends, especially Sue Herring, and the Fondulac staff for the support given to Joyce, since family lived so far from her. A memorial service will be held in North Carolina by her family.
