Joyce A. Showens

Joyce A. Showens, 70, of Bartonville went to be with the Lord at 5:50am on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 in the comfort of her home with family by her side. She was born on November 6, 1941 in Peoria the daughter of Chester M. and Garnet L. Henne Gregory. She married Jerry Showens on August 14, 1959 in Lewistown. Jerry is surviving along with their children Jerry "Butch" (Janice) Showens Jr. of Pekin, Jeffery Showens of Peoria Heights, IL and Juliann (Michael) Duncan of Glenarm, IL. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren as well as one sister Joanne Boyce of Elizabeth City, NC. Her parents preceded her in death. She worked for Kmart in Pekin for 15 years before retiring in 1996. She enjoyed watching hummingbirds as well as her pet maltese's Cassie and Faythe Joyce's excitement would fill the room with joy when she saw her grandchildren. She attended Bay View Baptist Church in East Peoria. Cremation rites have been accorded with private burial of her remains at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria with Rev. Aaron Samples officiating. Memorials are encouraged to be given in her name to the American Cancer Society.
