Laurie Ann Waibel passed away at her home in Congerville, IL on Wednesday March 5, 2025, at age 67 in the loving care of her husband and daughter.
She was born in Pekin, Illinois, on September 17, 1957 and spent her formative years in central Illinois, surrounded by its familiar charm. Along the way, she also ventured through the sun-soaked landscapes of California, the rugged beauty of Nevada, Arizona and the mountains of Colorado. Each place contributed to the rich tapestry of her life.
Her enduring spirit lives on through her husband Greg; stepfather, Norm Moore; her devoted daughter, Lisa Schell; and her cherished grandson, Joseph Schell. She is lovingly remembered by her sisters, Linda Riedlinger and Janet Wilcox (married to Jon Wilcox); her brother, Mark Riedlinger (joined by Kim Riedlinger); and her stepsisters, Paige Tate (married to John Tate) and Diane Moore. She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Barbara Ann Moore.
Laurie was not just a skilled technician; she was the ultimate resource for anyone in need of assistance with technology. Her passion for gadgets was unmatched, earning her a reputation as the girl who seemed to have everything. Whenever someone faced a tech dilemma, Laurie was the one they turned to for her expertise and enthusiasm.
Laurie had a deep passion for sewing and crafts, which brought her immense joy. Alongside her husband, she spent much of the year exploring the great outdoors, traveling and camping in their beloved travel trailer. Adventure was in her spirit; in years past, they even journeyed by houseboat along the Mississippi River. There, they encountered daring pirates, faced the challenges of being stranded in the wilderness, and bravely abandoned their ship when shipwrecked.
An avid collector at heart, Laurie delighted in attending auctions and craft shows, always on the lookout for hidden treasures. Though she possessed a gentle shyness and a reserved nature, her warmth and love for those around her shone brightly, making her an unforgettable presence to all who knew her.
While there will be no public services, Laurie's family will privately celebrate her life. Her family invites you to share your favorite stories and memories of Laurie to honor her memory.
