Laverne Hagey

Laverne Hagey, 88, of East Peoria passed on June 14, 2011 at Morton Terrace Care Center. He was born in East Peoria on December 16, 1922 to Gilford and Grace Tapp Hagey. He married Betty Slager on July 7, 1946 in East Peoria and from that union came his beloved daughter Rebecca (Larry Sr.) Dodillet of East Peoria and their two children Larry Dodillet Jr. and Christine Dodillet. He later married Bonnie Cornwell and to that marriage was a son Samuel. Also surviving is a stepson George (Debra) Cornwell of Pekin, two-step daughters Sheila White of East Peoria and Cynthia Waldschmidt of Metamora as well as many step grandchildren and step great grandchildren. Further surviving is one brother Gilford (Jacqueline) Hagey Jr. of East Peoria, two nieces and one nephew, and Kathy Hagey his former daughter-n-Law of Ridgeview, MO whom was married to Samuel and their two boys His parents, one son Michael Hagey, one sister LaVada Freeman, preceded him in death. LaVerne grew up in East Peoria working at Hagey's Market for many years and then as an East Peoria Firefighter retiring in 1978 as Assistant Chief after 28 years on the department. He loved to fish in Minnesota where he spent the last good years with his loving grandson Larry Jr. Cremation rites have been accorded with no visitation or services scheduled all at the request of LaVerne.
