Louis L. Lonteen

Louis Lawrence Lonteen died peacefully at 3:10pm Sunday, August 2, 2015 at the Apostolic Christian Skylines in Peoria with his son, Mark and Lou's wife, Marjean with him holding his hands as he went to be with Jesus, the primary focus of Louis's life! Louis was born on June 9, 1924 in Trinidad, Colorado to Abraham and Theresa Gonzalez Lonteen. His family included five brothers: Alphonse, Abe, Albert, Jacob, and Joseph and three sisters: Evangeline Chavez, Anita Montoya all deceased. Surviving is one sister Marie Whitehead of Columbus, Ohio. He married Helene V. Schooley on October 11, 1946 and later divorced. To that union were four children. Surviving are one daughter, Paula (David) Richards of Lehigh Hills, Florida, and Mark A. Lonteen of Milwaukee, Wisconsin along with one grandson Shawn Patrick Stanton of San Antonio, TX, two granddaughters Heather Margarite Stanton of Connecticut and Jennifer Stanton of San Antonio, TX; one grandson, Samuel L. Lonteen (Dori Oberman) of Galesburg, Illinois. Two of Louis and Helen's four children Louis Jr., and Mary A Stanton preceded him in death. Louis later married Marjean Lehman in Peoria, Illinois on September 11, 2002 and she survives. He was raised and served in the Trinidad, Colorado Catholic Church and School. Upon graduation from Bradley University, he worked in the chemistry labs at Pabst Brewery and most of his career was working for Campbell's Soup Company as an Operations Supervisor. He had an outstanding work ethic that took him to his employment well into his eighties. He worked for Campbell's in Milwaukee, WI, and Camden, New Jersey. After high school, Louis joined the United States Navy serving during World War II. One of his tours of duties was in the South Pacific before being honorably discharged on May 16, 1946. He was able to enjoy the Greater Peoria Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. in 2013. It was a wonderful day trip from Peoria to D.C. and he treasured it in his heart. He had a heart for volunteering and ministry services. These included: The Christian Application Project of Kentucky, The South Side Mission of Peoria, The Berean Prison Ministry at the Peoria County Jail, and the Peoria Rescue Mission, along with the Galilean Children's Home in Liberty, Kentucky. He spent several years volunteering at the Proctor Hospital in Peoria and the Central Illinois Cancer Center after battling cancer himself. Many life-long friends were made through the Cancer Support Group he participated in during treatments and through remission. On April 5, 1991, Louis was blessed by the Walk to Emmaus. His favorite Bible verses are found in St. Matthew Chapter 25 and favorite hymns of the faith were: "It is Well With my Soul" and "Amazing Grace". His reverence for God was his primary focus in life. Louis was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church of Peoria, Illinois. He loved the church and had a smile for everyone. He loved his children and grandchildren dearly. He was a resident of the Apostolic Christian Skylines Home since September 2014. He often said how blessed he was to have such tender loving care shown upon him during his rehabilitation and since he has endured failing health. The family wishes to deeply thank the Nurses and every one of the caring staff who tirelessly helped Lou during the time of his declining health. He was very blessed to complete 91 years and 2 months. Cremation Rites have been accorded with a private family Christian Memorial Service to be held.
