Marjorie
Higgs
September 5, 1937 – April 15, 2026
St. Philomena Catholic Church
Starts at 10:30 am (Central time)
Marjorie Higgs, 88, of Peoria, Illinois, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s and son-in-law's home on Wednesday, April 15, 2026. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. The last 18 months of her life were not easy, but she is finally at peace with God.
Mom was born on September 5, 1937. She was the daughter of Raymond and Margaret Morris, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her husband Harry, son Harry Jr, sister Judy Fromknecht, and brother Raymond Morris. She is survived by her daughters Lisa (husband, Randy Mercer) and Trina Coyle, son Timothy Higgs and grandchildren, RJ Mercer, Marissa Wenger, Jesse Coyle, and HT Higgs. Mom also had 7 great-grandchildren.
Mom was a parishioner at Sacred Heart and St. Philomena Catholic Churches. She went to St. Patrick's grade school and the Academy of Our Lady for high school. She and Dad met while in high school. Mom was a cheerleader, and Dad was a football player for Woodruff.
Mom's parents owned the A&W Root Beer stand in Creve Coeur during the '50s. Mom began working there at a young age and helped her parents run the business for many years, even while she was pregnant with her first child. She was a loving stay-at-home mom and worked diligently to care for the four of us.
She and Dad loved going to Florida and Las Vegas. She is probably best remembered as a floor exercise instructor at Landmark Racquet and Health Club for many, many years. Her younger participants marveled at the strength and endurance she had when teaching. Mom’s beloved Morkie (Remi) was her best friend after Dad died. She loved to walk for exercise and enjoyed being in her yard, mowing grass and tending to her beautiful flowers.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A Memorial Mass is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at St. Philomena Catholic Church in Peoria. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her honor to Carle Health Hospice or the Alzheimer's Association.
