Maxine Gagg

Maxine Gagg, 97, of Canton passed away at 11:53am on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria. She was born on July 2, 1915 in London Mills, IL the daughter of Dale and Myrtie White Swigert. She married Arthur F. Gagg on February 14, 1940. He passed away in 1983. Two brothers Weldon Swigert and William Swigert also preceded her in death. Surviving include one daughter Anita (D.A.) Stucker of Manito; two grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. A 1932 graduate London Mills, High School; she worked as a switchboard operator for the local telephone company in London Mills. After her marriage to Arthur, she owned and operated a restaurant in London Mills as well as the C&G Bait and Tackle Shop in Farmington for more than 20 years. She was a member of Farmington Baptist Church and attended the Manito Baptist Church with family. She loved playing piano and organ for the residents of Longview apartments in Canton, her family and friends even at her spirited age of 97. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren and friends will miss her wonderful enthusiasm, music and love of nature. Maxine's wishes were to be cremated with no services. Memorials in her name may be sent to the Manito Chapter of the Ducks Unlimited.
