Paul Arthur Atkinson

Paul A. Atkinson, 66, of Peoria passed away at 4:25am Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at his residence. He was born on November 23, 1948 in Peoria the son of Albert F. and LaNora Goett Atkinson. On February 8, 1969 he married Sandra "Sandi" Klein at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Peoria. Sandi survives along with their children Stacie (Shawn) Payne, Aimee (Greg) Durre and Matthew (Bonnie) Atkinson. Also surviving are three granddaughters Taryn and Kellyn Payne and Tammra Atkinson, five Grandsons Aaron, Alex and Austin Durre, and Matthew and Joshua Atkinson. Further surviving are three sisters Shirley Quick, Patricia (Ed) Driscoll and Marilyn (Bud) Sullivan, two sister-in-laws Cathy Atkinson and Colette (Mike) Trimeloni and three Brother in laws John McHugh, Mike (Suzi) Crowell and Pat (Diane) Crowell along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents two brothers Louis "Bud" and Richard "Dick" Atkinson, one sister Kathleen McHugh, one sister in law Hazel Atkinson; one brother in law Robert "Bob" Quick, and a nephew Darrin Hunter. He graduated from St. John Catholic School in 1962 and Manual High School in 1966. Paul was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church from its formation. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus St. Jude Council Third and Fourth degree, St. Ann Men's club and the VFW Post 2602 in Peoria Heights. Paul was a U.S. Navy Seabee Veteran serving in the Vietnam War. He retired from Ameren after 27 years as an electric Stores-Man Cremation Rites have been accorded. A Memorial Mass will be held 11am on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at St. Ann Catholic Church with Fr. Terry Cassidy officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to his Mass. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given in his name to Unity Point Health-Methodist Hospice.
