Randy Spurgeon, 64, died Wednesday, July 24, 2025, in the comfort of his home in Peoria, IL.

Born March 10, 1961, in Peoria, Illinois to Melford "Mel" Dean Spurgeon (deceased) and Carrie Borton Spurgeon who still survives. He married Cythnia "Loy" Browning in November of 2003, and she remained his life partner. He is survived by Loy Spurgeon; his stepson, Andrew Browning (Peyton) of Farmington, IL; his siblings: Melanie Spurgeon of Hot Springs Village, AR, Lori Robbins (Todd) of Conway, AR, Michael Spurgeon (Jackie) of Hamilton Ontario, Canada, and Cheryl Wabel (Dean) of Speer, IL; nephews: Tyler White, Kyle Robbins (Christina), Trevor White (Lisa), and Troy Robbins (Adrienne); and grand-nephews and nieces: Ava and Makenzie Robbins (Kyle), Hunter and Layla White (Tyler), and Eira and Eli White (Trevor).

Randy was a skilled carpenter and craftsman. Randy had a natural ability to master new skills and figure out complex problems relatively easily. He began his career after high school learning the cabinetry and residential construction business with his father at Sunnyland Cabinets in Sunnyland, IL. In 1993, he started a home construction business, Design Built Homes, with his sister, Melanie. In 2009, Design Built Homes was awarded the contract to build a home in Pekin, IL for the Extreme Homemaker Show. Randy and his wife, Loy, also built and remodeled houses. Randy decided to try a new adventure, and he received training and obtained his commercial truck driver's license. He purchased his own semi-truck and was employed by Crete and Maverick Trucking Companies, and he enjoyed traveling across the United States delivering loads.

Randy enjoyed vacationing and took several beach trips over the years. He enjoyed family dinners and visiting. Growing up he had many fun times with his family vacationing at the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri water skiing and swimming. In high school, Randy was on the diving team and mastered many complex dives. Randy was a passionate member of the Church of Scientology, and he had recently spent considerable time in Africa and in St. Louis completing courses that he enjoyed and that he found were beneficial to his wellbeing.

A generous person, Randy enjoyed helping people and he enriched people's lives. Randy had a playful sense of humor. He was always joking and playing around. Randy was truly loved, and he will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Randy was impressed with the training program at Lincoln's Challenge that his stepson and a family friend received and the difference it made in their lives. So, we ask that Memorial Contributions may be given to Lincoln's Challenge, in honor of his name. Mail checks to: Lincoln's Challenge Academy Budget Department 212 W. Borman Drive Rantoul, IL 61866. Checks should be payable to: Illinois Department of Military Affairs Trust Fund. With memo line: honor of Randy Spurgeon scholarships
