Richard "Dick" Lewis

May 10, 1945 — March 7, 2025

Edwards, IL

Richard "Dick" Charles Lewis, 79, of rural Edwards, IL, passed away on Friday, March 7, 2025, at OSF Richard L. Owens hospice home in Peoria, IL. He was born on May 10, 1945, in Spring Valley, IL, the son of Frank and Frances Ballard Lewis.

Dick grew up in Bureau, IL and was a standout athlete in Football and Track at Spring Valley High School. After school he went on to be a proud Iron Worker with the local 112 in Peoria, IL. On July 3, 1982 he met the love of his life Bonnie Welch who faithfully cared for him during his 4 year battle with cancer. She survives along with their children Troy (Jody King) Morton of Hanna City, IL; Shelley Pozzi of Lasalle, IL; Chad (Kristi) Morton of East Peoria, IL; Chad (Christina) Lewis of Veracruz, Mexico; and Matt Wahrenburg of Dunlap, IL. Also surviving are nine grandchildren: Cody, Austin, Breann, Taylor, Tyler, Dominic, Luke, Cole, and Hunter and two great-grandchildren, Nolan and Kinley.

Dick was well known for open door garage policy over the years. The fridge was always stocked for his family, friends and even a stranger. But his true pride and joy was his grandchildren, for whom he could recite every accolade and accomplishment in their lives. He was also a member of the Farmington Moose, and President (Past) of Hanna City Sportsman's Club and Wlimore Sportsman's Club.

While there will be no public services, Dick's family will privately celebrate his life. Memorials can be made to OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Center or Blue Butts Colon Cancer Fund. Affordable Funeral & Cremation Services of Central Illinois, Peoria, is assisting his family with arrangements.
