Richard C. Maurer, 69, of Canton passed away at 12:07pm Sunday October 16, 2011 at the VA Medical Center in Iowa City, Iowa. Dick was born on December 7, 1941 in Springfield, IL the son of Louis J. and Mary Belle Carter Maurer. He married Karen J. Lance on April 14, 1990. Surviving is his wife, two sons Kyle Carter and James (Susan Pershing) Sagaser all of Canton. Also surviving are two daughters Tara Maurer and her fiance' Michael Weber of Bryant and Elizabeth Sagaser and her fiance' Erik Lancaster of Canton, as well as 10 grandchildren. Two brothers Louie in 1996 and George in 2011 preceded him in death. Dick served his country by joining the US Army in 1962. While serving he was in the ASA (Army Security Agency) stationed in Herzo Base in Germany until he was honorably discharged in 1965. Dick owned and operated several businesses in the Canton area and among those were Spoon River Photography, Spoon River Ambulance, Spoon River Medical Supplies, SRA Alarms, SRA Rental and was also a Radio Shack Dealer. At the request of Dick, Cremation rites have been accorded with private family services scheduled. Memorials may be given in his name to a charity of the donor's choice.
