Richard W. Snyder, 89, of Eureka passed away unexpectedly Saturday evening, October 18, 2014 at his residence. He was born on August 2, 1925 in Roanoke, IL, son of the late Ralph and Flora Scheid Snyder. He married Elizabeth "Teasy" Klaus on June 1, 1946; she passed away on July 4, 2005. One sister Joan Smith also preceded him in death. Surviving are four children Ronald (Deb) Snyder of Eureka, Michel Snyder MD of Leesburg, FL; Terry (Tricia) Snyder of Sacramento, CA; and Pamela (Ken) Knapp of Eureka. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren, five great grandchildren and one sister Lynn (Paul) Gross of Springfield, VA. Richard was a partner of JB Snyder and Son of Roanoke and Eureka for many years, where he designed many homes in the Eureka area. He served as a trustee and was on the Kaufman Park Golf Course board of directors for over 30 years. Richard served as a Trustee at Eureka College and also Eureka Christian Church. He also served as a Eureka City Councilman, Rotary Club member and officer, Eureka Jaycees, a third degree Mason and original business member of morning coffee group started in Eureka in the 1960's, and still meeting. He also volunteered in Services to the Elderly (VISTE) as well as the Habitat for Humanity both in Lakeland, FL. He had many enjoyments in life including golf, hunting, playing bridge and fishing and was an avid Cardinal fan. Richard loved to entertain. Many of you remember his 50th birthday bash when he fried chicken for 60 guests with an open bar. He also bought steak dinners for the entire Eureka High School Football Team after a victory in Decatur in 1966. Cremation rites have been accorded. A Memorial Service will be held 10am on Saturday, October 25th at Eureka Christian Church with Rev. Jennie Churchman officiating. There will be no visitation Memorials may be made to Bethany Christian Church, DOC in Lakeland, FL or Eureka Christian Church, DOC in Eureka, IL. Private burial of his remains will be in Olio Township Cemetery in Eureka.
