In Loving Memory of Dolly

If you didn't know Dolly, we are sorry for you.

Dolly had the kind of heart a person is lucky to find once in a lifetime. We were fortunate enough to have her as our mother.

She loved us more than she loved herself. Mothers love their children, but even among mothers, her capacity to love us was exceptional. We were her everything.

Mom loved her friends and neighbors as well. Her illness became so severe that she was unable to eat for long periods of time, but even then, when it was hard for her to get around, she still thought of others. She would make meals for her neighbor, who was also ill, because Mom wanted to be sure she had something nice to eat.

Across the hall, there was a little boy Mom would play games with. She helped him make gifts for his mother and plant flowers, all while ignoring how badly she felt, simply because she wanted to make him happy.

Mom couldn't go into a public restroom without coming out with five new friends, their phone numbers, and plans to talk again. Our mother was beautiful, magnetic, loving, and unforgettable.

She will be missed tremendously by our entire family and by countless friends.

We write this in past tense because that is what we are expected to do, but we understand that our mother lives. She finally lives in a place deserving of her. The day will come when we will be beside her again.

Until then, we will work hard to make her as proud of us as we are of her
