Rosalie E. Klokkenga

Rosalie Elma Klokkenga, 87 of Sullivan Illinois, was greeted by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, December 19, 2016 at Mason Point Healthcare Center in Sullivan, Illinois. Rosalie was born on April 19, 1929 to Jacob and Elma (Nuss) Niedens in LaCrosse, Kansas. She attended school in Bazine, Kansas and high school at St. John's in Topeka, KS. She received her teaching degree and taught grade school at various Lutheran schools in Kansas, Texas and lastly at Christ Lutheran School in Peoria, IL. She married Harm J. Klokkenga in Sterling Illinois on August 25, 1957. Harm and Rosalie raised their family in Polo, Illinois, moving to Peoria in 1999. She worked at Polo Nursing home and retired from Elkay Manufacturing, Lanark IL. She is survived by her husband Harm of Sullivan, 3 children Mark (Kim) Klokkenga, Dunlap, Julie (David) Kirkley, Bethany, and Kathryn (Karl) Jensen of North Ogden, UT, 4 Grandchildren, Drew (Brittany) Kirkley, Strasburg, Amanda (Mark) Fleenor, Robinson, Austin and Megan Klokkenga, Dunlap, and 4 great-grandchildren, Dayne and Grace Fleenor, and Brody and Emmerson Kirkley. She is also survived by numerous brother and sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Merlyn Niedens. Rosalie played the organ and the piano at Christ Lutheran and passed on her love of music to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Rosalie centered her life on her family as she was a 4-H leader for the Brookville Comets, member of Ogle County Home Extension, and a Sunday school teacher. Rosalie was truly blessed in her cooking skills and she will forever be remembered for her fried chicken and pies. But her specialty was in her Volga German recipes. She was also an avid reader, excellent seamstress and supplied our households with beautiful handmade doilies. She spent countless hours working in her flower beds and vegetable gardens. She was a faithful member of Messiah Ev. Lutheran Church in Sterling and Mt. Calvary Lutheran in Peoria. Cremation Rites have been accorded. A Memorial service will be held 11a.m., Friday, December 23, 2016, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, Peoria, IL. Visitation will be one hour prior to her service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Concordia Lutheran School, Peoria or to Eastview Terrace Activity Fund, Sullivan, IL.
