Roxie Ann Smith

Roxie Ann Smith, 65, of Peoria passed away at 10:00 am on Monday, August 17, 2015 at her home. She was born on December 6, 1949 in Kewanee, IL to Thomas Austin Roulds and Barbara Long. She married Bernard Smith and had two boys, Bernard Smith III and Brian Smith. Roxie graduated from Weathersfield High School in Kewanee and later graduated from Mid-State College in Peoria with a degree in Business. She moved to Chicago, IL and worked for Play Boy as a justment correspondent. She also worked for Ebony Magazine as a secretary. She worked for the state of Illinois Mental Health as a technical supervisor, retiring after 32 years. She also worked for Holiday and Candlewood Hotel in management. Roxie enjoyed gardening, fishing, and was a collector of elephants. She was a daughter of the Elks Lodge and also a member of Ward Chapel AME of Peoria. She leaves to cherish her memories her two sons Bernard Smith of Rainier-Valley, WA and Brian (Michelle) Smith of Cummings, GA; four grandchildren Mariah and Carisah Smith of Kenosha, WI and Elzina and Brielle Smith of Cummings, GA; mother Barbara Long; sister Cynthia (Ray) Golden; brothers Phinez Roulds of Peoria, Thomas Roulds of Elgin, IL and Robert (Frieda) Roulds of Peoria; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Cremation Rites have been accorded. A Memorial Service is scheduled for 11:00 am on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at Ward Chapel AME.
