Gale L. Sherman, 77, passed away peacefully in his sleep Monday, May 13, 2013. Gale, the son of Lynn and Doris (Galpin) Sherman, was born April 28, 1936 in rural Yates City, IL. Gale married Sharon White of Galesburg, IL on December 21, 1958. She survives. Also surviving are three children, Sherry Sherman of Peoria, IL, Mike (Carrie) Sherman of Brimfield, IL and Shannon (Frank) Tugwell of Crystal Lake, IL; three grandchildren, Trent Sheets, Connor Sheets and Oliver Sherman; two brothers, Gene and Charles Sherman, and a sister, Charlotte Booth. Gale attended Western Illinois University and graduated from the OMC tool and die apprentice program. He was employed by OMC, Fleming & Potter and Caterpillar and was a lifelong farmer. He served on the Yates City Village Board, enjoyed golf and watching the St. Louis Cardinals and the Fighting Illini. His deepest passions were spending time with his family and farming. Cremation has been accorded. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on May 24, 2013 at the First United Presbyterian Church in Yates City, IL. A Celebration of Life will be held directly after at the Yates City Community Center. Memorials may be made to the Faith United Presbyterian Church of Yates City or the Midwest Affiliate of St. Jude.
