Shirley Godar

Shirley J. Godar, 92, of Peoria, IL. passed away at 2:44 am on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.

Born on December 21, 1932, in Peoria, Shirley was the cherished daughter of Albert and Lucille Schmidt McCullum. She married her beloved husband, John Dean Godar, on September 30, 1950, in Pekin, IL. He preceded her in death on October 9, 2007, as did her two dear sons, James Godar and Thomas Godar, whose memories she always held close.

Her legacy lives on in her loving family: two devoted daughters, Lucy (Bill) Mumaw of Springfield, MO, and Linda Brickner of Groveland, IL, and her son, Richard Godar of Morton, IL. Shirley was a proud grandmother to 11 grandchildren, including her special granddaughter, Sarah Wilkison of Groveland, and was blessed with 15 great-grandchildren who brought her much joy.

A lifelong St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan, Shirley cheered for her team with joy and loyalty, delighting in each game and sharing her enthusiasm with those around her.

Honoring Shirley's wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. Family and friends are invited to a graveside service at 11 am on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria, with Pastor Robert Finley officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home, whose care meant so much to Shirley and her family.
