Shirley J. (Houghton) Hazen

Shirley Jean Hazen, 91, of Morton, Illinois, passed away on December 4, 2022, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center.

Shirley was born to Clarence and Elvie Houghton on December 26, 1930. She graduated from Galva High School and went to the Methodist School of Nursing to become a registered nurse. She was proud of this accomplishment and often spoke of her experiences.

Shirley married Donald Coon on December 29, 1951. She was a devoted mother to their two children, Bruce Coon and Victoria (Dave) Parkinson, who survive. Shirley and Don spent ten years living in Georgia, where they enjoyed the mountains and made many friends. Don preceded her in death on August 24, 1990.

Shirley married Dean Hazen on October 12, 2001. They enjoyed spending time with family and playing games at casinos for many happy years together before Dean preceded her in death on October 5, 2016.

In addition to her late husbands, Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Robert Houghton, and her grandson-in-law Eric Weber. Both her children survive her; grandchildren Jennifer Weber and Marcy George; great-grandchildren Tyler (Claire) Weber, Jaedon Thomas, Emilee (Jaylen) Guy, Isaac Weber, Parker Moore, Kaitlyn Moore, and Scarlett George; and great-great-grandchildren Callahan Weber and Kendall Guy.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A private family service will be held in the coming days. Inurnment of her remains will be in Galva Cemetery in Galva, IL.
