Shirley J. Patterson

Shirley Joan (Wolf) Patterson, 88 of Benson, IL passed away at 6:57pm, Wednesday January 9, 2013 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. She was born at home in Panola, IL on December 24, 1924 the daughter of Joseph "Sip" and Pearl Marie Uphoff Wolf. She married Wayne T. Patterson of Benson on February 27, 1946 in Benson. Surviving are her husband of Benson, one son Dean Patterson and his wife Kathy of East Peoria; one daughter Melody Sloan of Benson wife of the late John Sloan. Also surviving are three grandchildren Wayne E. Patterson and his wife Jennifer of Houston, TX; Julia C. (Patterson) Hendricks and her husband Michael of Winfield, IL; and Ethan Patterson Sloan of Benson. Further surviving are two great grandchildren Drew and Kate Patterson of Houston, one sister Carol Janssen, one brother Don Wolf and his wife Arlene all of Benson. Her parents, one brother Joseph "Gene" Wolf of Benson, preceded her in death. Shirley graduated from Benson High School; she lived and worked in the Benson area for many years last working as the assistant postmaster for the U.S. Postal service in the Benson post office prior to her retirement. She attended St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Benson. Cremation rites have been accorded with a graveside service scheduled for 2:30pm on Saturday January 19th at Clayton Township Cemetery in Benson with the Rev. Gordon Barrick officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials in her name may be given to the Benson Ambulance Service.
