Sonja Nesbit

Sonja Nesbit, 73, a resident at B'Nai Brit Apartments in Peoria, passed away at Unity Point Health-Methodist on June 30, 2014. She was born December 12, 1940 in Peoria to Berleatha Howell and Alvin Jones. Sonja was married to the late Henry (Hank) Nesbit and resided in East Peoria during their life together. She was a loving mother to Marlon D. Jones, who preceded her in death, and Juan T. Nesbit. Sonja once owned and operated Sonja's Shear Pleasure Barbershop and Cozy Corner Tavern and Nightclub and more recently worked for Judy's Barbershop where she maintained a great rapport with her customers. Sonja was the oldest sister to Larry Howell (Galesburg), Connie Moore (Peoria), Joyce Howell (Peoria), and three siblings: Gary Howell, Lanny Howell, and Sylvia Howell who preceded her in death. She also leaves behind six grandchildren, 16 nieces and nephews, great grandchildren, and several other relatives and friends. Sonja was a caring and vibrant woman whose spirit will live on with those who knew and loved her. The family will honor Sonja's request for a cremation and no memorial services are scheduled.
