Sophie Dunn

Sophie Dunn, 96, of Liberty Village-Manor Court in Peoria, formerly of Hanna City, and Pueblo, CO passed away peacefully at 8:20am on Saturday, August 3, 2013 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. She was born on July 2, 1917 in Hayward, WI the daughter of Andrew and Waleria Dubiel. She married Lester DeGroot. She later married Everett Dunn in Sandwich, IL; he passed away on February 17, 1991. Sophie was also preceded in death by her parents, two infant sons, two brothers, three sisters and one granddaughter. Surviving are three daughters Lorraine (Dewey) Christopherson of Trivoli, IL; Alice (Ray) De St. Aubin of Bean Station, TN; Kathleen Moore of Santa Rosa, CA; one son Richard (Jeri) DeGroot of Sandwich, IL; three step children Lois (Robert) Palmarez of Magnolia, TX; Dr. James (Penny) Dunn of Eagle River, WI and Terry (Kelly) Dunn of Penryn, CA. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren, 15 step grandchildren and many great grandchildren. Sophie and her husband moved to Pueblo, CO in 1963. She worked at City Park Golf Course for several years. She relocated to Hanna City in 2002 to be close to family. Sophie had a passion for helping others and was a caregiver to many relatives and friends. She was known for her loving and generous heart and enjoyed entertaining family and friends. Cremation rites have been accorded with private family services being held at a later date with interment in Pueblo, CO. Memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer's Association-Central Illinois Chapter or to a charity of the donor's choice.
