Vernon C. Tidwell

Vernon C. Tidwell, 87, of Peoria, passed away at 9:05pm, Tuesday, April 24, 2018, at Heddington Oaks in West Peoria, IL

He was born on January 7, 1931 in Newbern, TN the son of Leonard and Sylvia Hanson Tidwell. He married Thelma Floyd April 8, 1949 in Trivoli, IL. She passed away on April 12, 1997. His parents and one brother and one sister also preceded him in death.

Surviving are four children, Johnny [Meredith] Tidwell of Morton, IL, Linda Brophy of Hanna City, IL Dennis [Fonda] Tidwell of Peoria, IL and Douglas [Jackie] Tidwell of Chillicothe, IL. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother Billy and one sister Joyce.

He was an honorably discharged U.S. Marine Veteran. Vernon worked for Caterpillar Tractor Co for 43 years last working as a truck driver before retiring in 1992. While working at Caterpillar, Vernon served as a Union Steward. After his retirement, he operated a lawn care service in the Peoria area. He enjoyed many things in life especially gardening at his home as well as Second Baptist Church in Peoria of which he was a member. Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held 10:00 am Saturday, April 28, 2018, at Second Baptist Church, 6417 W Farmington Rd, Peoria. There will be no visitation.
