Virgil D. Davis, 61, of Peoria Heights, passed away at 10:09 pm Saturday October 6, 2012 at his residence with family by his side. He was born on November 9, 1950 in Spring Valley, the son of Virgil L. and Ellen L. Jason Davis. He married Vickie Lyons on May 11, 1996 in Peoria. Surviving is his wife, four children; David Davis, Shawn Davis both of Lacon Angel (Tanner Puent) Pederson-Davis of Chicago and Dewayne (Devon) Davis of South Pekin. Also surviving are two grandsons Matthew and Dawson as well as four step grandchildren and one on the way. Further surviving is his mother Ellen Lutes of Lacon, three brothers; Jerry Davis of Spring Valley, Jack (Vickie) Davis of Henry and Joe (Pam) Davis of Lacon; three sisters Ellen (Charles) Robbins, Chris Marchesi both of Lacon and Dianna Davis of Toulon. His father preceded him in death. A US Army Veteran he served during the Vietnam Conflict stationed in Germany before being discharged in September of 1972. He worked at Caterpillar Tractor Company for 17 years before retiring in 2011. The things he enjoyed were the classic 1940 car he had and classic car shows. He also loved being on the boat fishing, being in the woods hunting all with family and friends. Virgil started the first classic car show in Peoria Heights named Thunder in the Streets. He loved being with people and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He would help anyone that needed his help at anytime. Cremation Rites have been accorded with a Memorial Service scheduled for 11am on Thursday October 11, 2012 at Averyville Baptist Church with Rev. David Coyle officiating. The family will receive friends one-hour prior to this service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given in his name to the Illinois Cancer Care Foundation.
