Wayne Patterson

Wayne T. Patterson, of Benson, passed away on Monday, May 27, 2013 at the Apostolic Christian Nursing Home in Roanoke. He was born in Benson on January 30, 1923 the son of Gilford and Emma Thierer Patterson, he married Shirley J. Wolf of Benson February 27, 1946 in Benson She passed away on January 9, 2013. Wayne was also preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Ray and Wesley Patterson. Surviving is one son, Dean G. Patterson and his wife Kathy, of East Peoria; one daughter, Melody (Patterson) Sloan, of Benson; three grandchildren, Mr. Wayne E. Patterson and his wife Jennifer of Houston, Texas; Mrs. Julia C. (Patterson) Hendricks and her husband Michael of Winfield, Illinois; and Mr. Ethan Sloan of Benson. Also surviving are two great-grandchildren, Drew and Kate Patterson of Houston, Texas; two sisters, Mrs. Roberta Peterson, of Benson and Mrs. Veramae Arends of Lacon. He graduated from Benson High School, attended Purdue University for a time, and enlisted in the Marine Corps where he spent three years in the Pacific theatre of World War II. Wayne and family made their home in Benson and worked for and retired from Caterpillar Inc. Cremation rites have been accorded with a graveside service scheduled for 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 1, 2013 at the Clayton Township Cemetery in Benson with the Rev. Gordon Barrick officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Benson Ambulance Service.
