William "Mick" M. McDowell Jr. (Mickey), 82, of Peoria Illinois passed away at 12:55 pm on March 27, 2012 at home surrounded by family and loved ones. He went home to be with his Lord and Savior. Mickey was born in Sac City, Iowa on September 15, 1929 to William Mark McDowell Sr. and Anna Hannah (Houhulin) McDowell. He married Joyce Arlene King on May 23, 1953 in Peoria Illinois. Surviving are: his wife Joyce Mc Dowell of Peoria, three daughters Linda (McDowell) Doling of Princeville Illinois, Janis (McDowell) Marler of Leadington, Missouri, and Joy (McDowell) Miller of Mossville, Illinois, Three grandsons Brian Doling, Christopher Chiavini, and Jason Miller, three granddaughters Beth (Doling) Davis, Megan Chiavini, and Allison Miller and four great grandchildren. Mickey was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Anna McDowell, Viola Dunaway, and brother, Ralph McDowell. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps reserves and was called to active duty in the Korean War. During his service from 1950 to 1952, he was wounded and received the Purple Heart. Mickey was employed by Keystone Steel and Wire Corporation in the shipping department. He retired in 1991 after 39 years of service. Mickey loved fishing and bowling in leagues and with friends. He was an avid St. Louis cardinal fan. As a member of the Bartonville American Legion Post 979, Mickey served as financial officer for 14 years and enjoyed being an active member in serving his community. Other organizations were the VFW post # 3883 and a life time member of the American Legion. Cremation Rites have been accorded and a private family service for internment of his ashes will be performed at the Rock Island Arsenal National Cemetery.
