Bruce W. Platt Jr. died peacefully in his sleep on December 28, 2023. He was born in Cedar Rapids, IA on July 10, 1946, to Bruce W. Platt Sr. and Melva (Milroy) Platt.
Bruce worked for Caterpillar for thirty years. He worked as a forklift operator and completed his career as a layout planner.
Bruce married Delaine Harkins on May 5, 1972. Though they divorced in 1997, they remained friends. She survives.
Bruce had two children. His son, James Platt, preceded him in death in March of 2020. He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer (Troy) Wheat of Mackinaw, two grandsons, Brendan Wheat and Connor Wheat of Mackinaw, and two granddaughters, Maia Wheat and Cora Wheat of Mackinaw. He was extremely proud of his grandchildren and loved his family dearly.
Bruce is also survived by two sisters, Deborah (Daryll) Stenberg of of Minnesota, and Cynthia (Donal) Schmitt of Georgia, as well as two nieces, two nephews, three aunts, and several cousins.
Bruce had close friends that were very important in his life. He was grateful for their company and assistance. His friend, Lionel, was especially important to him and it was Bruce's wish that he and his wife live in his home after he passed away.
Bruce had a generous heart and enjoyed helping others. He donated to several charities including Boys Town, St. Jude, March of Dimes, Toys for Tots, and Boys and Girls Club, among many others. He will be missed by his family and friends. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a charity in Bruce's name.
At his request, cremation has been accorded and there will be no services.
