Caryl Ann Tyler (Steubinger), 70, formerly of Peoria, Peoria Heights, and most recently Metamora, passed peacefully at OSF St. Francis Medical Center on Wednesday, December 14, 2022. She was born November 13, 1952, in Peoria, IL, to Willard and Shirley Steubinger. She met her husband, William (Bill) Tyler, through the church, and they were married in 1981. He survives.
In 1983, they had their first daughter, Julie Ann Oliverius (JD); in 1984, their second daughter, Holly Christine Imhoff (Nicholas), arrived.
Caryl also has three granddaughters, Camille, Piper, and Lainey Imhoff. Also surviving are her brothers, Bill (Gaylene) Steubinger, Frank (Mary) Steubinger, and sister, Connie (Glenn Stieghorst, who preceded Caryl in death). Caryl was also blessed with three nephews and four nieces (on her family's side). Her brother-in-law Robert (Bob) Tyler and his three sons survive. Bob's wife, Jan, preceded her in death).
For most of her adult life, she worked as a medical transcriptionist for both Proctor Hospital and OSF St. Francis Medical Center. She retired from OSF in 2014 and soon found out she was going to be a grandma, which just might have been her favorite title ever.
In her younger years, Caryl loved traveling with her family. Every summer, they went on a family vacation and even snuck away for shorter vacations and weekend trips throughout the year. She also loved baking and was well-known for her delicious cinnamon rolls. You must have been on her naughty list if you never had them.
As she aged and travel became more difficult, reading became a steady hobby; she even embraced technology years ago with a Kindle. Playing solitaire and Free Cell were also fun brain teasers that she enjoyed. Mom was also very witty and had a great sense of humor. Above all, though, spending time with her family was her favorite. There truly was nothing she enjoyed more, and for that, she will be forever missed by many.
A casual, open house Celebration of Life will be held from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm on Thursday, December 22, at Rock Church 1081 Upper Spring Bay Road, East Peoria, IL 61611. Light refreshments will be served. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name may be given to the Southside Mission.
